Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

 The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will be the Cloud service owner, leading the expansion into cloud services including Microsoft Azure, maturing the processes and procedures used to support and secure the cloud environments, while expanding automation solutions and promoting DevOps.

The role will participate in both "business as usual" and project activities, providing expert guidance and support on all aspects of the cloud tenant, all aspects of the on-premise and hybrid Infrastructure, with accountability for related vendor and supplier management.

Additional to BAU, the role requires involvement in all agreed project work, as coordinated through the PMO office

RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing all aspects of the expansion into the MS Azure infrastructure, along with management and support of the existing Office 365 deployment

Work as part of the wider Infrastructure team to define and lead the technical strategy around cloud systems, including but not limited to, creating architecture designs, executing implementations and providing day to day support by creating and maintaining system documentation and Standard Operating Procedures for both cloud specific and on-premise infrastructure

Designing a highly available and scalable cloud infrastructure tuned to project and business requirements. Designs should focus on secure configuration, utilising single sign on and multi-factor authentication with adherence to ISO27001

Install, configure, automate, and monitor various cloud services, Infrastructure as aService and Platform as a Service (IaaS, PaaS).

Set up & troubleshoot Azure builds, including but not limited to ARM, ASR, SQL,Containers & Azure AD.

Provide down-stream operational knowledge transfer to internal and external teams.

Emphasize monitoring and issue mitigation in service of SLA achievement.

 

Configure application-aware infrastructure to automatically handle application
requirements, security, and disaster-preparedness functions such as back-ups and
data recovery.

Perform operational engineering for activities which include platform upgrades,
server patching, monitoring, configuration, and trouble shooting. Always ensuring
the cloud system and infrastructure deployed are secure and aligned to UK’s
policies, ISO27001 and Cyber Essential Plus standards

To contribute to refining security policies and technical controls to ensure the
deployment and usage of cloud systems remain secure in light of emerging threats
or change in UK’s risk appetite.

To lead the drive towards infrastructure automation and integrated DevOps within
Cloud infrastructure

Ensure a focus on discovering and implementing commercially viable and
customer-focussed solutions

Complete daily infrastructure checks to ensure critical processes and back-ups
have been successful, remediating any issues discovered.

Provide guidance and maintenance of MS Azure and any other cloud platforms
employed, Active Directory Services, physical data centre hardware, virtual and
physical network services, along with any other infrastructure related software and
services

Undertaking capacity and performance management of infrastructure related
systems to maximise uptime

Investigate and evaluate new technologies to implement across the platforms,
identifying, socialising and implementing best practices as they emerge

Works with the Change and Release function to safely deliver updates and
enhancements as required

Able to analyse current processes, identify and implement opportunities to
optimise processes

Ensure that release policies, procedures and processes are followed and applied.

Works with IT PMO team to ensure on time, quality led, costed solutions as
required.
